Dr. Andrea Mondelli is the Chief CPU Architect at the Huawei Hong Kong Research Center. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Université de Rennes, France, in 2017, with a thesis titled “Revisiting Wide Superscalar Microarchitecture,” supervised by Dr. Pierre Michaud and Prof. André Seznec. He also holds an MBA from Bologna Business School, a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Università di Pisa, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Politecnico di Bari. Over the past 20 years, he has worked in the fields of computer architecture, memories, and cybersecurity across Italy, the USA, France, China, and the UK, publishing multiple manuscripts, conference papers, and a book on memory and coherence protocols.

Before joining Huawei, he held research and engineering positions at the University of Siena (Teraflux project on multicore and reconfigurable systems), Ericsson, and Sun Microsystems. His work focuses on improving core performance and security, contributing to various RISC-V and Arm-based IPs used in millions of smartphones today. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the department and as a CALAS Team Advisor, where he brings deep industry expertise in CPU architecture and hardware security to guide research at the intersection of high-performance computing and secure system design.
